Glossary of Terms commonly used in relation to patterned metals.

Squares   Descriptive name for pattern 21.
 
Checks   Descriptive name for pattern 21, which has been highlighted.
 
Highlighting   The process of polishing one side of a patterned sheet. Rigidized sheets may be highlighted on the front or reverse side.
 
Rhomboids   Descriptive name for pattern 22.
 
Linen   Descriptive name for pattern 25.
 
Leathergrain   Descriptive name for pattern 42.
 
Canvas   Descriptive name for pattern 26.
 
Cambridge   Descriptive name for pattern 6SL.
 
Pippin   Pattern 5WL coloured and highlighted on the front side.
 
Prism   Pattern 5WL coloured and highlighted on the reverse side.
 
Elephant Hide   Descriptive name for patterns 9EH or 1LTH.
 
11PS   Alternative name for pattern 1SLG.
 
13SD   Alternative name for pattern 3ND.
 
10WG   Alternative name for pattern 1CS.
 
12LG   Alternative name for pattern 42.
 
9EH   A similar pattern to 1LTH.
 
Pannier   Pattern 28 coloured and highlighted on the front side.
 
Paladin   Pattern 3ND coloured and highlighted on the front side.
 
Pagoda   Pattern 6WL coloured and highlighted on the front side.
 
Pearl   Pattern 6WL coloured and highlighted on the reverse side.
 
Pyramid   Pattern 7WL coloured and highlighted on the reverse side.
 
Pampas   Pattern 1LTH coloured and highlighted on the front side.
 
Pantheon   Pattern 1LTH coloured and highlighted on the reverse side.
 
Pinstripe   Pattern 6SL coloured and highlighted on the front side.
 
Widestripe   Pattern 2FL coloured and highlighted on the front side.
 
304   304 The most popular and widely available grade of stainless steel. Suitable for most internal and external applications.
 
316   316 This grade of stainless steel has added molybdenum to give greater corrosion resistance than the 304 grade for chemically aggressive environments.
 
Rigidized®   The process of cold rolling a pattern on metal, using two complementary engraved rollers. Patented by Rigidized Metals Corporation in the USA in 1940.
 
Rigidtex®   The trade name for Rigidized® metals produced by Rigidized Metals Corporation in the USA.
 
Embossed   The process of cold rolling a pattern on to one side only of metals using a single engraved roll.
 
Supertex   An alternative name for Satin Finish stainless steel.
 
Raltex   Rigidtex® patterns which have been powder coated and highlighted.
